چکیده
The mechanism suggested by Turing for reaction-diffusion systems is widely used to explain pattern formation in biology and many other areas. persistence of patterns altering environments an important property natural cases. experimental study these phenomena can be done chemical using appropriately designed reactors, e.g., two-side-fed open gel reactors. This configuration allows testing the effect time-periodic boundary conditions that generate periodic feeding chemicals on dynamics patterns. numerical approach based a chemically realistic 2D description reactor reproduces from boundaries corresponding concentration gradients. Depending amplitude frequency forcing, two basic regimes are observed, spatiotemporal oscillations pulsating spot pattern. In between them, mixed-mode also develop. Spot survive large forcing. pulsation analyzed detail, considering tanks gradients localize These findings suggest effectively controls systems.

Forced patterns near a Turing-Hopf bifurcation.
We study time-periodic forcing of spatially extended patterns near a Turing-Hopf bifurcation point. A symmetry-based normal form analysis yields several predictions, including that (i) weak forcing near the intrinsic Hopf frequency enhances or suppresses the Turing amplitude by an amount that scales quadratically with the forcing strength, and (ii) the strongest effect is seen for forcing that ...

Self-organised patterns of vegetation are a characteristic feature of many semi-arid regions. In particular, banded vegetation is typical on hillsides. Mathematical modelling is widely used to study these banded patterns, because there are no laboratory replicates. I will describe the development of spatial patterns in an established model for banded vegetation via a Turing bifurcation. I will ...

Very little is known about how animal colour patterns develop. The stripes of the zebrafish provide a tractable a model for colour pattern formation, which now suggests an unconventional patterning mechanism.

Models of diffusion-driven pattern formation that rely on the Turing mechanism are utilized in many areas of science. However, many such models suffer from the defect of requiring fine tuning of parameters or an unrealistic separation of scales in the diffusivities of the constituents of the system in order to predict the formation of spatial patterns. In the context of a very generic model of ...
متن کاملMembrane-bound Turing patterns.
Motivated by recent observations in biological cells, we study Turing patterns in bounded regions where the nonlinear chemical reactions occur on the boundary and where reagent transport occurs in the bulk. Within a generic model, we formulate the stability problem and discuss the conditions for the occurrence of a Turing instability. By choosing other model parameters to be unequal, we find th...
